PlayDecoded is not a sportsbook

We don't take bets, hold money, or pay out winnings. PlayDecoded is a statistics site. We publish win probabilities and show the factors behind them so you can understand a game, not so you can chase one. Nothing here is a tip, a lock, or a promise. A 65% favorite still loses about one time in three, and our accuracy page tracks exactly how often our numbers miss.

Sports betting is legal only for adults, and the minimum age is 21 in most states and 18 in a few. Know the rules where you live before you wager a cent.

When it stops being fun

For most people, betting on a game is entertainment with a fixed price, like a ticket to watch it. It becomes a problem when the cost stops being fixed. Watch for these signs, in yourself or someone close to you:

  • Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • Chasing losses, trying to win it back with a bigger bet on the next game.
  • Betting on games you don't care about just to have action.
  • Betting to escape stress, boredom, or a bad mood rather than for fun.
  • Lying about how much you bet, or hiding it from people you trust.
  • Borrowing money, missing bills, or selling things to keep betting.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut back.

One of these on a rough week isn't a diagnosis. Several of them, or one that keeps coming back, is worth taking seriously today rather than next month.

Set limits before you start

The easiest bet to control is the one you've capped in advance. A few habits that help:

  • Decide a budget for the month and treat it as spent the moment you deposit it.
  • Use the deposit, wager, and time limits every licensed sportsbook is required to offer.
  • Never bet money set aside for rent, food, or bills.
  • Take a real break after a big loss instead of trying to win it back the same night.
  • Keep it social and sober, decisions get worse when you're tilted or drinking.

Free, confidential help

None of these will judge you, and none of them cost anything.

  • National Problem Gambling Helpline: call or text 1-800-GAMBLER, 24/7, all 50 states.
  • National Council on Problem Gambling: ncpgambling.org — help lines, a treatment-provider directory, and a self-assessment.
  • Gamblers Anonymous: gamblersanonymous.org — free peer-support meetings, in person and online.

Take a break with self-exclusion

If you want to make betting harder to reach, you can. Every licensed sportsbook lets you self-exclude for a set period or permanently, and most states run a program that blocks you across every operator at once. Your state gaming commission or the NCPG self-exclusion guide can point you to the right form.
